I can’t take all the credit for these up-cycled chairs, as the kids did most of the work under my supervision, but I just had to include this project for its cuteness value!
Around two years ago, a close friend was giving away her old timber dining chairs. We decided to claim a couple and paint them up to “match” the table I had refurbished a few years earlier. (see dining table refurb). I was going for a quirky, eclectic look, and the kids were excited to be creating their own signature pieces to sit on.
They chose the colours, sanded by hand, and globularly painted their prized pieces. (We used enamel paint so any food stains could be wiped off easily.) It wasn’t the quality of the job that was important: it was the experience that the kids got out of owning their own project, getting hands-on and using their imaginations.
We all had a lot of fun.
Here, my daughter was almost 6.
And my son had just turned 8.
Happy little DIYers!
